- We sat in some interesting technical sessions that went way over my head (although Kevin fared considerably better – he wound up with a free noise-cancelling headset in a session raffle, not the best gaming headset but still, not too shabby)
- We toured the large and extremely busy pavilion, picking up endless amounts of nerd t-shirts, pens, and other assorted swag. Getting a bag to hold it all with a real challenge – we had to apply for jobs at Sony before they would even consider letting us have one! Just for that, when Sony offers us a prime job offer, we’ll turn it down! That’ll show ’em!
- And finally, we sat in on the game awards, both for independent developers and for the big studios. There was a ton of impressive material from the indie groups, proving that some of the best examples of creativity in the gaming world belong to the independents. As for the big studios awards, basically… Uncharted 2 was the answer to everything – Excellence in Visual Arts, Excellence in Audio, Best Technology, Excellence in Writing, Game of the Year. It was pretty ridiculous.
Heading off to Carl’s Jr. afterwards for some birth defect burgers (see above pic), found us surrounded by fellow developers who provided more stimulating nerd conversation. Good times, good times…
Now if you don’t mind, I need to sleep.
